Description
Motor City Online is the online evolution of the popular Need for
Speed series. The idea is that you'll enter a persistent world of
car fanatics who do nothing but tweak their rides and race like
madmen. You'll start out with a beater, then participate in races
and earn cash to either trick out your car into a cherry ride or
buy yourself a bona fide classic. The game's angle is that the drivers
you race against and trade with online are living, breathing people
playing from their homes around the world. It's EverQuest in a car.
Licensed cars include, but aren't limited to,
Mustangs, Corvettes, and other classic cars. The focus is on the
1950s to '70s, when the rides inspired car clubs to sprout up
across the country. Speaking of clubs, they will be openly encouraged,
much like Quake clans or the organized squadrons found in multiplayer
flight simulations. These clubs can take control of certain tracks
by beating other clubs in races. If you enter the online lobby,
you might see that a Corvette club called the Skulls has taken
control. Then your club can challenge the Skulls and eventually
usurp them.
Interestingly, the game will have a full economic
model based on supply and demand, so if you have your eye on a
certain car or part, the price you pay will be driven by how many
others are buying the same item. An accomplished racer can also
collect parts and go into business auctioning them off to other
players in the game--a nice twist.
